Orphan Relief Project
Esther is one of the women we met on our first trip to Africa. She was a quiet, humble, hard working woman that delighted in her children. She won our hearts the first time we saw her bright smile. Her family lived in the end of the chicken coop on the land where we were building a church.
On our second trip to Africa we heard of the tragedy that had happened in Esther’s life. Her husband was caught in the middle of a field fire which had trapped and killed him. Like most African women, you would not have known of Esther’s tragedy by her attitude or her facial expressions. Though she never complained of her situation, she worked tirelessly to care for her children and provide them with food.
One night as we lay trying to sleep, we could hear the sounds of Esther hard at work, hoeing around the banana trees outside her mud hut. Esther’s only time for working her garden was in the cool of the night under the moonlight while her seven children slept.
Esther, much like the Esther in the Bible, was devoted, faithful, and loyal. God used Esther to save His children and give them a future. She was needed “for such a time as this.” You too are needed.
After returning to the states we told Esther’s story, which produced our first sponsorship and laid the ground work for the Orphan Relief Project.
Esther’s story is just one of the millions that are left untold in Africa today. Millions of children are left without any parents and are found daily, living alone. We pray that through this sponsorship project, stories will be told and futures will be created.
Please continue to pray with us for this project and for your involvement.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this; to look after orphans widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
